Rajamudi Utsava held at Melukote

Melukote: Rajamudi Utsava was held on a grand scale last night in the temple town.

Presiding deity Sri Cheluvanarayanaswamy was adorned with the diamond-studded precious Rajamudi Crown gifted by Mysuru Wadiyars.

The Gandabherunda medallion and other precious and traditional items of the utsava were placed on the idol and was taken out in a colourful procession through the thoroughfares of the town. Thousands of devotees participated in the utsava.

Rajamudi and other precious items were brought from Mandya District Treasury under tight Police Security to the town and were placed near Anjaneya Swamy temple and later brought to the Cheluvanarayanaswamy temple in a procession. After a thorough scrutiny, the jewels were handed over to the temple priest and supervisors. The main procession commenced at 8 pm and went on till 9.30 pm. The Thottilamadu jathre popular among childless couples to beget children will be held today.
