Rajiv Gandhi Housing Corporation beneficiaries seek sites, houses

Mysuru: Urging houses to be built at sites allotted to them, beneficiaries of Rajiv Gandhi Housing Corporation staged a protest in front of Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) office on Friday.

Stating that MCC had invited applications under Rajiv Gandhi Housing Corporation scheme during the year 2000 and offered to build houses on 20×30 site under the scheme, the protesters said that 2,000 beneficiaries were selected under the scheme in the year 2002-03. But 823 beneficiaries including themselves have not been given houses, they alleged.

“The houses were approved for Rs. 35,000 and we were asked to pay Rs.10,100 as the first  instalment. Out of the 823 allottees, about 400 beneficiaries were given sites and sites were registered at Mysuru North Sub-Registrar’s office along with chakbandi, ten years ago. But when these beneficiaries submit new applications, they are being issued with a notice asking them to pay Rs. 4.90 lakh to provide them houses under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, which is not right,” they added.

“When Siddharamaiah was the Chief Minister, an order was issued by the Government waiving off the remaining instalments and declared the beneficiaries as the absolute owners. “The order also directed to issue Title Deeds which was provided by the MCC Commissioner for a few houses. Hence, we as beneficiaries, are now the absolute owners of our allotted sites and houses. But because of the negligence of Ashraya Committee and Corporation officials, we have been deprived of our houses for the last 17 years. Though some houses have been constructed, they have not been given basic facilities,” they complained.

Protesters demanded that the notice issued to them saying that they will be provided G+3 houses if they pay Rs. 4.90 lakh should be withdrawn and Title Deed be issued immediately to those who have proper documents.
