The works on one more Government Hospital in city, under Super-Speciality category, is going on briskly. Named Rajkumari Krishnajammanni Super-Speciality Hospital, the facility is located on KRS Road behind Trauma Centre and is dedicated to Rajkumari Krishnajammanni of erstwhile Mysore royal family.
Built at an estimated cost of Rs. 134 crore, the Rajkumari Krishnajammanni Super-Speciality Hospital joins the list of many Government hospitals in city. The building is ready and the Hospital is likely to be inaugurated by Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa after Sankranti Festival. After inauguration, the Hospital will acquire medical facilities and advanced equipment needed for speciality care.
The new building has come up behind the Trauma Centre in an area of 82×91 metres and has five floors. The underground floor will be reserved for cancer unit, radio-diagnosis division and urology wings. The ground floor will have neurology and its allied neuro surgery wings, first floor will have medical oncology division, gland surgery and paediatric surgery divisions. The second floor will house gastrointestinal treatment and gastrointestinal surgery divisions. It will also house plastic surgery wing. The third floor will have anaesthesia wing, nephrology and heart surgery divisions. Pune-based B.G. Shirke Construction Technology Limited has built the Hospital and a vast concrete road around the structure has also been built. There is connectivity for Trauma Centre and Rajkumari Krishnajammanni Super-Speciality Hospital from KRS Road in front of ESI Hospital. At the entrance of the Hospital, a giant gate has been erected for smooth passage of vehicles and ambulances.
Along with the outer structure, electricity, CCTV systems and communication networking have been completed. All rooms in the Hospital have connectivity to vital parameters like oxygen supply, facilities needed for all the five Operation Theatres (OTs) have been provided along with temperature control facilities, medical gas pipelines have been inter-connected from the main supply line, Naveen, Project Manager of B.G. Shirke Construction Technology, told Star of Mysore.
The Trauma Centre, which was inaugurated in 2018 in the same campus as Rajkumari Krishnajammanni Super-Speciality Hospital, is not yet operational. It was built at a cost of Rs. 25 crore and the purpose of the Centre was to provide emergency treatment to accident victims who need timely critical support.
Though there were plans to convert the Trauma Centre into a second COVID Hospital after the main COVID Hospital (District Hospital on KRS Road) reached its maximum capacity, this did not happen as the number of COVID-19 infections drastically came down after reaching its peak. The Trauma Centre is likely to function in another two months or so and certain critical trauma care equipment has to arrive. “We have submitted a proposal to the State Government to recruit staff, doctors, D-Group employees and security for both Trauma Centre and Rajkumari Krishnajammanni Super-Speciality Hospital. The proposal is likely to be included and passed in the next budget,” Dean & Director of Mysore Medical College and Research Institute Dr. C.P. Nanjaraj told SOM.
Need suitable access road
As Rajkumari Krishnajammanni Super-Speciality Hospital is set to be dedicated for public service soon, there is a need of a road that is easily accessible to patients who are wheeled into the emergency rooms.
There is a long-pending proposal of constructing a road that starts near Gokulam Trinetra Circle connecting PKTB Sanatorium campus and KRS Road (near ESI Hospital). The establishment of the Super-Speciality Hospital has underlined the need further and authorities have to examine the possibility of laying the road.
At present, there is a possibility of connecting the Hospital and the Trauma Centre from Mahadeshwara Layout Contour Road but this is a roundabout route. If a new road is built from Gokulam Trinetra Circle connecting PKTB Sanatorium campus and KRS Road, it will enable ambulances coming from Kodagu and Hassan to easily enter the Hospital campus from Vijayanagar Hi-Tension Road and Trinetra Circle. Otherwise, the roundabout way is the only alternative.
