Bengaluru: Raksha Ramaiah was on Thursday declared elected as the President of Karnataka Youth Congress in a keenly fought elections with four candidates in the fray. Raksha Ramaiah is the son of former Minister M.R. Seetharam and grandson of M.S. Ramaiah, who founded the prestigious M.S. Ramaiah Group of Educational Institutions at Bengaluru.
Interestingly, the Congress has annulled the election of Mohammad Nalpad, son of Shantinagar MLA N.A. Harris, who secured more votes than Raksha, on the grounds that he (Nalpad) was facing criminal charges.
Raksha had secured 57,271 votes while Nalpad had secured 64,203 votes in the online polls. Though Raksha came second securing less number of votes than Nalpad, he was declared elected as the President, as Nalpad was disqualified by the Congress Election Committee, which took serious note of the criminal charges he was facing.
State NSUI President H.S. Manjunath, who secured 18,317 votes, was declared as KPCC Youth Wing Vice-President.
