Mysuru: Taking strong exception to the Supreme Court’s recent ruling striking down ‘Consequential Seniority’ in job promotions announced by the State Government for SC/ST employees in 1978, hundreds of activists under the banner of Karnataka Meesalathi Samrakshana Samithi and a host of other Dalit, Backward Classes and Minorities organisations, took out a massive rally in city this morning demanding continuation of reservation in job promotions.
The protestors, after garlanding the statue of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar at Town Hall, marched through Gandhi Square, Clock Tower, Devaraj Urs road and JLB road, to reach Metropole Circle where they formed a human chain. This led to huge traffic pile up on all the roads leading to the Circle.
The woes of motorists were compounded with the authorities blocking traffic at the signal near Kalamandira on Hunsur road for cutting of a huge dead tree. Traffic on the stretches returned to normalcy after half-an-hour after the protestors marched from Metropole Circle to the DC office, where they presented a memorandum.
