Mysore/Mysuru: Rotary Mysore Brindavan, Rotary Mysore North and Rotary Mysore West, had jointly organised a programme, ‘Ranga Geethalahari’ in memory of renowned theatre artiste, Subbaiah Naidu, at Rotary West School in Saraswathipuram here yesterday.
Inaugurating the programme, Senior actor Girija Lokesh, who is also the daughter-in-law of Subbaiah Naidu, recalled that Subbaiah Naidu accidentally got an opportunity to enact a role in a play, who later carved a niche for himself in theatre and also emerged as a leading actor in movies.
She also said that Subbaiah Naidu entered movies 125 years ago which incidentally coincides with 125 years of Kannada cinema. She pointed out that actors do not receive any pension and added that supporting actors receive meagre remuneration.
She further said that despite several odds, Subbaiah Naidu emerged as a great artiste to be remembered eternally by art lovers. She opined that artistes should not be very choosy and added that opportunities will definitely come their way.
She commended Rotary Clubs for organising a programme in memory of Subbaiah Naidu.
Members of ‘Natana’ rendered theatre songs. Artistes Rajashekar Kadamba, Prakash R. Hanasoge, Ullas, Raju, mimicry Gopi and others were present.
