Mysuru: As part of Rathasapthami, Mysore Yoga Okkuta, in association with Patanjali Yoga Shikshana Samithi, had organised a Mass 108 Suryanamaskara in front of Kote Anjaneyaswamy Temple, Palace North Gate, this morning.
About 800 yoga enthusiasts, including many foreigners, performed the Suryanamaskara early in the morning as the Sun just emerged from the horizon.
The initial rays emitted by the Sun are said to be very beneficial while the Suryanamaskara is being performed.
Inaugurating the event, Mysore University Vice-Chancellor Prof. G. Hemantha Kumar opined that yoga is good for both physical and mental health. He said that it was being contemplated to start a yoga course at the University.
Okkuta President B.P. Murthy, District AYSUH Officer Dr. B.N. Seethalakshmi and several yoga trainers were present.
Marking the occasion, similar programmes were organised at Cheluvamba Park in Yadavagiri, Jayamma Govindegowda Kalyan Mantap in Kuvempunagar and other places in city.
Yaduveer Wadiyar family performs puja
Going by the tradition of Mysore Maharajas, Yaduveer Wadiyar, along with his wife Trishikha and son Adyaveer, offered puja as part of Rathasapthami to all the eight ‘Rathas’ of Temple in the Palace premises here this morning. The family later visited all the Temples in the Palace premises and offered puja.
