Mysore/Mysuru: The Sahayaks (earlier called Licensed Coolie Porters) and housekeeping staff are among the worst affected people in the aftermath of Covid-19 pandemic.
The second wave has brought about untold misery for them by snatching away their livelihood which is primarily the meagre porterage they earn by carrying passengers’ luggage.
With drastic reduction in travel plans by Rail users, leading a decent life has become very tough for them. Recognising the plight of these economically marginalised group, the members of the Indian Railway Ticket Checking Staff Organisation (IRTCSO) of Mysuru Division pooled their resources and donated ration kits for sixty members who work at Mysuru Railway Station. Each kit contains 5-kg rice, 1-kg dal, 1-kg sugar and half a litre edible oil.
Rahul Agarwal, Divisional Railway Manager, South Western Railway (SWR), Mysuru Division, who was present on this occasion, appreciated the efforts of the Ticket Checking Organisation for the noble gesture of providing some succour to the needy in these critical times.
Dr. Manjunath Kanamadi, Sr. Divisional Commercial Manager, Mysuru, Mayur Subbaiah, Divisional Working President and other office- bearers of IRTCSO, Mysuru Division, were present, according to a press release.
