Mysore/Mysuru: As part of Children’s Day celebrations, the Rural Development and Panchayat Raj (RDPR) Department will be holding a fortnight-long Gram Sabhas on Child Rights across the State from Nov.13 to 30.
According to the Department directive, the Sabhas are held since 2006 in accordance with a rule under Protection of Child Rights and Children inclusivity. The Sabhas focus on child-friendly and child-safety initiatives.
The other highlights of Gram Sabhas are: Achieving 100 percent success in issuance of child birth certificates, vaccination of children for immunity against various diseases, enrolment of all children in the age group of 3 to 6 years in Anganwadis or Pre-school education centres, nourishment of children, etc. Gram Sabhas will also check enrolment of children aged between 6 and 14 years in schools, making villages completely free of child labour, eradication of child marriages, education of girls aged less than 18, prevention of child trafficking, prevention of child deaths in villages, safety of children and such other child issues.
