Re-install bus shelters near Kamakshi Hospital

Sir,

This letter is in support of the issues raised by Dr. M.N. Manjunath (SOM dated 20.2.2017). The authorities associated with the mysterious disappearance of bus shelters in front of Kamakshi Hospital and Sigma Hospital owe an explanation to the bus-travelling public they have put to inconvenience.

A few months ago, the ITS enabled shelter in front of Kamakshi Hospital was removed and a no-parking sign board was the only alternative that was offered in its place.

Two months ago, the concrete shelter on the Sigma Hospital side was demolished as well. The concrete structure in front of the hospital had a resting bench as well that had served bus travellers for years.

On either side of the road, the space earmarked for the bus stop has been quickly gobbled up by cars and the no-parking sign serves no purpose. Now, there is no place for bus commuters to wait and they are at the mercy of bus drivers who don’t have a definite place to stop the bus. It is a sorry sight to see senior citizens, patients and young schoolchildren run behind the bus each time.

If public transport in Mysuru continues to receive slip-shod treatment like this, it will simply drive people away to personal transport and that can only add more woes to the burgeoning traffic in the city. The bus-travelling public demand an explanation from the authorities involved (KSRTC, Traffic Police, MCC and the hospital authorities) why the bus shelters were removed and an update on the measures being taken to alleviate the hardships faced by us.
