State Government to file review petition

Bengaluru: The State Government has decided to file a review petition against a High Court order that had directed the State Government to regularise the services of 129 contract lecturers serving in the University of Mysore (UoM).

Contract lecturers serving in the UoM for more than 10 years had moved the High Court seeking a direction to the University for regularisation of their services.

The HC, which heard the plea, directed the UoM to regularise the services of contract lecturers and also grant them all statutory facilities.

Following the HC order, the UoM wrote to the State Government stating that it cannot decide on regularising the services of contract lecturers.

Subsequent to the University’s letter, Higher Education Minister G.T. Devegowda discussed the matter with higher authorities in the Department and also Law Department, after which the Government decided to file a review petition in the High Court, it is learnt.
