Reinforce HTV ban on Hunsur Road

Sir,

About two decades ago, following a series of ghastly accidents that claimed the lives of many innocent motorists and left several others seriously injured, a total ban on the movement of  Heavy Transport Vehicles (HTVs) was imposed on the stretch of Hunsur Road between St. Joseph’s School Junction and the Ring Road Junction.

This ban had a significant impact in improving safety and reducing accidents along this busy section of the road.

However, in recent times, it has been observed that HTVs have once again started plying on this stretch — possibly due to a lack of awareness about the ban or a deliberate attempt to save time and fuel.

Since there are no signboards about the HTV ban on this stretch, it is strongly suggested that the authorities concerned install clear and visible signage at strategic locations, particularly between St. Joseph’s School Junction and the Ring Road Junction, stating “HTV Banned.”

These signboards should also be placed at all intersections connecting crossroads with Hunsur Road to ensure maximum safety.

Installing these boards will go a long way in creating awareness among HTV drivers and help in reinstating the safety that this stretch once enjoyed.
