Mysuru: Over 100 farmers came to city this morning from Srirangapatna to protest against the release of Cauvery water from the Krishna Raja Sagar Dam to Tamil Nadu.
The farmers, who staged a dharna in front of Cauvery Command Area Development Authority (CADA) office on Sayyaji Rao Road, shouted slogans against Mandya District In-charge Minister M. Krishnappa and CM Siddharamaiah accusing them of neglecting the plight of farmers along the Cauvery basin who have been waiting for water since months.
They also said that the State Government, instead of releasing water to canals to help farmers in agriculture, was releasing water to Tamil Nadu from the KRS amidst tight Police security.
Farmers also threatened to intensify their protest by jumping into river if the State Government does not stop the water release to Tamil Nadu. They also alleged that Siddharamaiah government was releasing water only to retain power.
