Remembering Prof. V.K. Nataraj

Sir,

I recall my friend Prof. V.K. Nataraj, who passed away in city on Dec. 9, as a real distinguished scholar in his subject Economics.

He later became the Director of Madras Institute of Development Studies, Chennai, the Institute which had as its first Director, Development Economist Padma Bhushan Malcolm S. Adiseshiah. It was, indeed,  a recognition of his merit in the field.

I picked-up the above photo with Prof. James Manor of Sussex University, UK, where Nataraj was a Visiting Faculty. I met them together when James had come to MYRA School of Business in city during October  2017, for a lecture on D. Devaraj Urs.

We were contemporaries in Maharaja’s College in mid-50s and Nataraj was a daring debator with oratory skills. May his soul rest in peace.
