Mysuru: The State Government has granted post-facto approval for the release of Rs. 1,51,29,199 for the renovation of heritage buildings in Mysuru city, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Mysuru City Corporation. This funding is part of the Nagarothana Phase III project, aimed at preserving the architectural heritage of the region.
The approval follows concerns about the initial withholding of funds for the renovation project. In light of this, the Director of the Directorate of Municipal Administration submitted a proposal to the Government requesting post-facto approval for the disbursement of funds, highlighting that the payments had already been made to workers involved in the project.
The Mysuru Deputy Commissioner had proceeded with payments for four projects under the Nagarothana Phase III initiative, despite the uncertainty surrounding the funding as there were chances of the Government taking back the funds.
This decision was taken to ensure that the ongoing renovation works were not disrupted.
During an audit by the Chief Auditor, there were objections raised regarding the payments being labelled as a diversion of funds. However, officials clarified that there was no misuse of the allocated funds and the spending was within the project’s scope.
In their proposal, the Director of the Directorate of Municipal Administration emphasised the necessity of securing post-facto approval for the Rs. 1,51,29,199 already paid.
The renovation efforts are seen as crucial for maintaining the cultural heritage of Mysuru, a city known for its rich architectural history.
As the project progresses, the Government aims to further enhance the beauty of Mysuru’s traditional structures while promoting urban development.
