Repair work begins on caved-in Perumbadi Road: To be opened for LMVs in four days

Virajpet: Perumbadi Road near here connecting Kodagu-Kerala Inter-State Highway, which had caved-in owing to heavy downpour, would be restored in four days, according to Kaddaniyanda Harish Bopanna, Personal Secretary to District in-charge Minister Sitharam.

Bopanna, along with PWD officials, visited the spot yesterday. PWD Superintending Engineer Prabhu said that the road had no stay wall and trenches dug by several companies to lay cables had resulted in the road to cave-in which will all be rectified in four days. He added that only Light Motor Vehicles (LMV) would be permitted to ply for a week and mini-buses ten days later. After a month, the road would be operational for lorries. The restoration cost of the road would be about Rs. 40 lakh and water flow has been diverted to facilitate repair work. Later, a 200 metre stay wall would be constructed at a cost of Rs. 1 crore, explained Prabhu.

PWD Assistant Engineer M.K. Suresh, Virajpet Block Congress President R.K. Abdul Salam and others were present.
