Reports on me contesting Assembly polls are false: Dr. Vidyabhushana

Mysuru: Dr. Vidyabhushana, noted classical singer and former Seer of Kukke Subramanya Mutt, has clarified that speculations on his contesting from Chamundeshwari Assembly segment as a BJP candidate was totally false.

He made this clarification while taking part in the Karnatak Classical vocal recital programme organised by D. Ramabai Charitable Trust at Sri Nadabrahma Sangeetha Sabha on JLB Road here yesterday.

Speaking at the event, Ramabai Charitable Trust’s Jayaram Patel said that he was shocked to read reports in a section of the Press that Dr. Vidyabhushana will be contesting the 2018 Assembly polls from Chamundeshwari constituency, from where Siddharamaiah would contest. Later, he spoke to Dr. Vidyabhushana, who said that the reports were baseless and he was not interested in politics.

Dr. Vidyabhushana, accompanied by Vid. H.L. Shivashankaraswamy on mridanga, Vid. M.R. Manjunath on ghata and Vid. H.K. Narasimhamurthy on violin, presenting a vocal concert at Sri Nadabrahma Sangeetha Sabha in city last evening.

Hailing Dr. Vidyabhushana for his simplicity and modest lifestyle, he said that the singer, through his recitation of Purandaradasa and Kanakadasa Keertanas, had become a household name. Stating that Ramabai Charitable Trust has been promoting arts, culture, literature, etc., Jayaram Patel said that the Trust Founder Jagannath Shenoy has instituted awards in memory of his parents — Ramabai and Govind Rao.

Dr. Vidyabhushana, who presented a concert, was accompanied by Vid. H.K. Narasimhamurthy on violin, Vid. H.L. Shivashankaraswamy on mridanga and Vid. M.R. Manjunath on ghata.
