Mysuru: A felicitation ceremony was held by NCC Group Headquarters, Mysuru, recently at Maharaja’s College auditorium for Cadets from Districts of Mysuru, Mandya, Chamarajanagar and Hassan who participated in the Republic Day Celebrations (RDC) at New Delhi as part of Karnataka and Goa NCC Directorate. Associate NCC Officers and Staff who were involved in the training of Cadets from these Districts were also felicitated on the occasion.
The programme was presided over by Col. M.K. Belliappa, Group Commander of NCC Group Headquarters at Mysuru. The event was attended by Officers, Associate NCC Officers (ANOs), staff and cadets from various schools and colleges, and proud parents of meritorious cadets.
Addressing the gathering, Col. M.K. Belliappa lauded the Cadets for their successful participation in the Republic Day Contingent held in Delhi. He said that the achievements of these cadets speaks volumes of the hard work, dedication and sincerity that has brought kudos to their parents, educational institutions and the NCC. He also complimented the parents and institutions for having encouraged the cadets to put in their best effort.
The Republic Day Camp 2018 at Delhi was a month-long affair, commencing from the last week of December and finally terminated with the Prime Minister’s Rally, on Jan.28. All faculties of the NCC Cadets are tested during the preparations for this camp, culminating in the grand finale at Delhi.
The preparations for the RDC 2018 involved screening of 600 Cadets of Mysuru Group. After two camps, only 74 cadets were selected for the Inter Group Competition of the Karnataka and Goa Directorate. During the Inter Group Competition, selected cadets from various parts of Karnataka and Goa competed with each other. 35 cadets from Mysuru were selected for further training at Bengaluru and finally, 14 cadets from the Mysuru group found their place in the Karnataka and Goa Contingent that left for the RDC to Delhi on Dec.28.
At RDC 2018, the cadets competed with other selected cadets drawn from 16 other NCC Directorates from various States of the country. It is indeed commendable that Karnataka and Goa Directorate stood third at the All India level competitions.
Senior Wing Cadet, CWO S. Saagarika Shyamnur of 4 Karnataka Air Sqn, NCC, Mysuru, studying in NIE, has been awarded the Silver Medal for Air Force Best Cadet at RDC Delhi. Cadet Kamal Solanki of 3 Karnataka Naval Unit, NCC from Mahajana’s High School, secured the Best Cadet Award in the Junior Division Navy Category. Cadet M.U. Manju was selected for marching at Rajpath in New Delhi on Jan.26. SUO K.K. Kalavati of 15 Karnataka Bn, Hassan, was selected from Mysuru group for the Guard of Honour.
