The Government SC/ST Officers and Staff Parishat and Dalit Students Forum of Mysore University had organised a seminar on ‘Supreme Court verdict on reservation in promotion’ at the Humanities Block in Manasagangothri here yesterday.
Inaugurating the programme, H. Hanumanthappa, former MP and former Chairman of National Scheduled Caste Commission opined that reservation was necessary to remove inequality in society.

He said that reservation should not be restricted to a fixed period.
He added that government reiterates on equality for all but it is not implemented as big companies are under private bigwigs. He advised the government to discuss with legal experts and file a review petition in Supreme Court regarding the new order on reservation policy.

Presiding over the programme, former MP A.H. Vishwanath alleged that out of Rs. 26,000 crore fund provided for Social Welfare Department, not a rupee had been utilised for the education of the SC/ST students.

He ironically pointed out that District Minister Dr. H.C. Mahadevappa had spent the money earmarked for welfare of SC/ST to develop roads in SC/ST colony (Rs. 5000 crore) and another Rs. 1000 crore to Panchayat Raj Department to supply drinking water. He sought reservation for backward class and minorities too.

In-charge VC Dayananda Mane, writer Prof. K.S. Bhagavan and others were present.
