Mysore/Mysuru: Rev. Fr. P. Joanes (62) passed away today at 2.15 am at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Mysuru, following brief illness.
Fr. Joanes was a Priest of the Diocese of Mysore for 36 years. Born on June 29, 1958 in Harobale to Puttu Raj and Madale Mary, his parents were blessed with eleven children.
He joined the St. Mary’s Minor Seminary, Mysuru, to be a priest. He completed his studies of Philosophy and Theology in St. Peter’s Pontifical Seminary, Bengaluru. He was ordained as Priest on May 14, 1985 at St. Joseph’s Cathedral, Mysore, by the Bishop of Mangalore Most Rev. Dr. Basil D’Souza.
Rev. Fr. P. Joanes has served in several Parishes and institutions such as St. John the Baptist Church, Palahalli; Sacred Heart Church, Naganahalli with additional in-charge of St. Mary’s Church, H. D. Kote, St. Paul’s Church, Chamarajanagar; St. Theresa’s Church, Mysore South with additional responsibility of CFI; St. Joseph’s Church, Siddapur and lastly in Infant Jesus Church, Pushpagiri. He has also served as Dean of Chamarajanagar Deanery.
The mortal remains of Rev. Fr. Joanes was taken to his native place Harobale of the Archdiocese of Bangalore for funeral service later today. The Diocese of Mysore will hold a Requiem Mass on Apr. 13 at 11 am at St. Joseph’s Cathedral, Mysuru, to pray for the departed soul.
The Bishop along with Bishop Emeritus, Clergy, Religious and Laity of the Diocese of Mysore, have condoled Fr. Joanes’ death.
