Belagavi: Maintaining that certain amendments have been made to fix revenues for Jamma Baane and other Baane lands in Kodagu district, Revenue Minister R.V. Deshpande has said that the process to fix revenues has been set into motion.

Replying to a question by Virajpet BJP MLA K.G. Bopaiah at the ongoing Winter Session of the State Legislature yesterday, Deshpande said Assistant Commissioners have been given powers to fix revenue for all Baane lands.

Pointing out that a total of 1,91,288 acres of Baane land including 87,666 acres in Madikeri taluk, 97,368 acres in Virajpet taluk and 6,253 acres in Somwarpet taluk have been brought under Revenue Department ambit, the Minister said that Government has initiated the process to resolve contentious issues.

Replying to another question by Bopaiah on the efforts being made to provide basic amenities to tribals living in forest lands in Kodagu, the Minister said that Kodagu DC had held a meeting with all stakeholders in this regard on Feb. 22 during which the DC had directed Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Corporation (CESC) officials to submit a report on underground cable and open pole cable works to provide power to tribal hamlets.
