Mysuru: With the Centre revoking two key Constitutional Provisions – Article 370 and Article 35(A) that gave the State of Jammu and Kashmir a host of special rights yesterday, the City Police have declared high alert throughout the city as a precautionary measure.
Speaking to SOM, DCP M. Muthuraj said that soon as the Centre tabled the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Bill- 2019 which proposed to revoke Article 370 and 35(A) of the Constitution in the Rajya Sabha on yesterday morning, a large number of Police Personnel were deployed across the city, to prevent any untoward incident.
Clarifying that no security was provided to J&K students studying in different areas of the city, he said that however, Police Security was heightened in the wake of the tabling of the Bill as a precautionary measure.
Stating that Civil Police, KSRP, CAR, Mounted Police and Commando Force Personnel were deployed at vantage points and sensitive areas of the city, the DCP said that Police Inspectors were instructed to patrol areas coming under their jurisdiction.
Pointing out that victory celebrations were carried out by some organisations later in the afternoon, he said that the Police provided security to such celebrations too and added that the vigil will continue till Tuesday.
