Mysore/Mysuru: A motorbike rider was killed on the spot and the pillion rider suffered injuries when their vehicle was knocked down and run over by a sand-laden tipper lorry near Banchallihundi on Mysuru-Nanjangud Road.
Shivaswamy (30) of Arepura village in Gundlupet tauk is the deceased, while the pillion rider Mahesh, aged 24, of the same village, who has suffered critical injuries is admitted to a hospital in Mysuru.
The two are employed at Asian Paints Limited factory in Himmavu Industrial Area and were riding towards the factory for second shift, when the accident occurred. They were waiting on their vehicle to take a right turn, when the tipper lorry carrying M-Sand hit their vehicle. Following the impact, Shivaswamy came under the wheels of the tipper and was crushed to death. While the wheels of the tipper ran over the leg of pillion rider Mahesh.
The public have insisted that the Police should act against over-speeding heavy motor vehicles to prevent accidents. The lorry drivers resort to speed driving only to dodge the Police, but it’s the riders who are severely inconvenienced due to sand particles hitting their eyes.
