Riders ignoring road safety

Sir,

Road safety is grossly being ignored by citizens of the city. Carrying big objects on two-wheelers is not advisable in terms of their safety and other road users’ safety. Still people are carrying big plants, wooden logs, fibre doors, etc., on two-wheelers by placing it across the vehicle.

Recently it has been seen that two riders carrying gunny bags of leaves on two-wheelers and for quite some distance both were moving side by side occupying more than half of the road, violating lane discipline and taking a right turn on red signal. As such both were not wearing the helmets.

Is it not a risk for other road users, if not for them? People are taking road safety for granted and they consider they will be safe on city roads. However, last year 55 two-wheeler riders lost their lives on city roads. What does this indicate?

If people start thinking of the value (in terms of importance) of their head, which cannot be repaired that easily, they may feel that the helmet is very much cheaper ! Then they may buy a good quality one and wear it, which saves their life. People should not violate road safety rules at least for the safety of other road-users !
