‘Cauvery Nadi Habba-2019’ held at Kushalnagar
Kushalnagar: “Rivers are lifeline of our country. We need to protect them,” urged Suttur Seer Sri Shivarathri Deshikendra Swamiji.
He was speaking at ‘Cauvery Nadi Habba-2019’ organised by Cauvery River Trust in association with Cauvery Maha Aarati Balaga and Cauvery Nadi Swachhata Samiti in Kushalnagar near Ayyappa Swamy Temple.
The 100th Aarti was performed to the River Cauvery and hundreds of devotees took part in the ceremony.
“The pristine Vrishabhavathi river of Bengaluru has now turned into a drain. Our youth have the responsibility of ensuring that River Cauvery would not suffer the same fate. We need to save water and save our rivers,” he said.
Speaking on the occasion, Retired Deputy Director-General of Geological Survey of India (GSI), Dr. H.S.M. Prakash said, “Cauvery Nadi Habba is a new concept which aims to create awareness among people regarding the importance of protecting the rivers.”
Kodlipete Kirikodli Mutt Seer Sri Sadashiva Swamiji inaugurated the event. Cauvery Nadi Swachhata Andolana Samithi State Convenor M.N. Chandramohan delivered the keynote address.
A souvenir titled ‘Namami Cauvery’ was also released on the occasion.
Eco Club of National Green Corps had organised an awareness rally in which a large number students from Kushalnagar schools and colleges took part.
The rally, which began from Kushalanagar Government Model Primary School premises, was flagged-off by District Nodal Officer of the Eco Club T.G. Premkumar. Students of Kudige Kodagu Sainik School, Fathima High School, Atturu Jnanaganga School, Wisdom College and Student Police Cadet members of Government High School and PU College participated in the rally.
A special bhajan and cultural programmes were also held and later, during the night, the activists performed Aarti to the river. Ammattikanne Mutt Seer Sri Channabasava Deshikendra Swamiji, Torenuru Virakta Mutt Seer Sri Mallesha Swamiji, Town Panchayat Members Sheikh Khalimulla, Suresh, Cauvery Nadi Swachhata Andolana Members H.T. Anil, S.S. Sampath Kumar, Reena Prakash, Chief Officer of Kushalnagar Panchayat D.R. Somashekar, Bose Monnappa, Vanita Chandramohan of Arati Balaga, M.N. Kumaraswamy, Veerashaiva Mahasabha District President H.V. Shivappa and others were present.
