Mysuru: All schools need to have a School Association for Road Safety (SARS) in place to better manage the traffic situation in and around the schools, said Traffic Warden S.V. Raghavendra.
He was addressing the students and teachers during the session on Road Safety and Traffic at the 25th State-level National Children’s Science Congress held recently at the Senate Hall, University of Mysore.
The session was aimed at informing the students about their responsibilities while on road and tips on traffic rules and legislations.
“The traffic situation in and around the schools is very frightening during starting and closure time. The entire road is clogged by vehicles picking up and dropping off students and there is ample scope for accidents to occur. With proper guidance, school students themselves can manage this traffic situation,” he said.
He also covered the aspects of training of drivers of school vehicles, rash driving and compulsory usage of helmet.
SARS team (a group of 30 students) would be trained by Traffic Wardens on signals, road safety aspects, march-past parade, traffic management principles in each school and best SARS team of a school will represent the school during Independence Day and Republic Day parades and also the Dasara torchlight parade, he said.
More than 300 students and teachers participated in the session. Deputy Chief Traffic Warden Subramanian, Traffic Wardens Nagesh, Panchakshari, Ramanath and Dr. Vijayendra were present.
