Mysuru: The road straightening work near Jaladarshani Guest House, opposite Kalamandira on Hunsur Road, which was to begin today has been postponed.
The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) Executive Engineer T.R. Shivaram told Star of Mysore, here yesterday that since the District in-Charge Minister Dr. H.C. Mahadevappa, MP Pratap Simha and other people’s representatives could not give their time for the foundation stone laying ceremony, the work on the Rs. 12 crore worth project has been postponed.
Only on the confirmation of their availability, the date for commencement of the work would be confirmed, he added.
It may be recalled that Shivaram had told Star of Mysore two days ago that the work would begin from Oct. 16.
Protest against roadworks
Meanwhile, Mysore Grahakara Parishat (MGP) and Kukkarahalli Ulisi Horata Samithi will jointly hold a silent protest at Kalamandira at 4 pm today against the proposed road straightening works.
A large number of general public are also expected to take part in the protest.
The organisers believe that works would adversely affect the flora and fauna of the Kukkarahalli Lake apart from uprooting the existing trees.
