New Delhi: In a big boost to maintenance of Dams across the country, the Union Cabinet on Thursday decided to allot Rs. 10,000 crore for the new project that is aimed at making dams safer and sturdier.
The Union Cabinet has come up with a new project to overhaul the methodologies of dam maintenance. The project covers maintenance of 736 major dams in 19 States for the next ten years at a cost of Rs. 10,211 crore. The project will be in force from Apr. 2021 till Mar. 2031. The State Governments have been entrusted with the power of identifying the dams to be covered under the project, which will be executed by Central agencies, according to Union Jal Shakti Minister Gajendra Singh Shekawat.
