Mysore/Mysuru: A large scale irregularities to the tune of over Rs. 37 lakh in the loan recovered from women Self-Help Groups (SHG) has come to light and a complaint of embezzlement of funds has been lodged against Chief Ledger Writer at Yelwal Police Station in the district.
Taluk Planning Officer (TPO) has lodged a complaint, alleging embezzlement of over Rs. 37 lakh at Okkuta limits in Mysuru taluk’s Gungralchatra and Anandur Gram Panchayats, between June 18, 2019 and Aug. 18, 2023.
As a Government initiative, Sanjeevini Gram Panchayat Level Federation (GPLF), popularly known as Okkuta, provides loan facilities to rural women. The GP level SHGs are identified and the needy women members will be given loan and recovered through instalments, with the said responsibilities entrusted to the Chief Ledger Writer. Though the loan amount has been recovered during the said period from June 18, 2019 to Aug. 18, 2023, those who performed the task of Chief Ledger Writer has issued the receipt towards the amount. However, part of the amount has been neither deposited in the bank nor recorded in cash registry.
The suspected irregularities came to light during the audit review, which includes a whopping Rs. 22,29,112 in Gungralchatra GP Okkuta and Rs. 15,05,896 in Anandur GP Okkuta.
The complaint states that, apart from cheating the Government by misusing funds meant for public welfare, the records have been destroyed.
