Bengaluru: In a good news for Guest Lecturers, the State Government would provide Rs. 5 lakh as Fixed Deposit to Guest Lecturers over 60 years of age and those who have died after serving in Government First Grade Colleges of the State.
The Higher Education Department has issued an order in this regard on Friday.
This follows the assurance given by the State Government after the Guest Lecturers staged a stir and undertook a padayatra in 2024 seeking fulfilment of their demands.
The Fixed Deposit plan will come into retrospective effect from January 2024.
Those who have completed 60 years of age as on that date or thereafter, are eligible for the plan.
The beneficiaries must have served as Guest Lecturer for at least one year in the previous five years from Jan. 1, 2024, before attaining 60 years of age.
The Government has set aside Rs. 44.15 crore for the plan.
Meanwhile, MLC K. Vivekananda, while welcoming the Government’s order, said that the plan must also be extended to Guest Teachers and other Lecturers serving in different levels at Government educational institutions.
In an appeal to the Government, Vivekananda said that the Rs. 5 lakh Fixed Deposit plan must also cover Guest Teachers and Lecturers as well, as it will help thousands of them.
