Mysuru: The Transport Department, in the wake of an accident in Nanjangud in which 12 students sustained injuries and the van driver died on the spot recently, will commence checking of vehicles of private educational institutions for fitness from tomorrow.
It may be recalled that the RTO had conducted an awareness programme for private school vehicle drivers, vehicle attenders and institution management on June 14 at Maharaja’s College Grounds and had given 15 days time for them to rectify the problems in their vehicles. As the deadline ends today, the specially formed RTO Squad will commence the checking district-wide from tomorrow.
M. Prabhu Swamy, Dy. Commissioner of Transport and senior RTO at RTO West told SOM that a Special Squad, consisting of three Senior Motor Inspectors K.V. Sridhar Adhikari, P.A. Charles and S.P. Satish and Motor Inspector Prabhakar, will be moving around in city and across the district and will conduct checking of private school vehicles for fitness when they ferry the students to and fro.
He further said that the squad will check for vehicle documents such as Registration Certificate, insurance, Fitness Certificate, Driving License and also will check for attenders in the vehicle, speed governors, emergency exit, door and door lock, window rods etc. and added that if the vehicle is found violating the norms, a case would be registered on such vehicle. There are nearly 400 vehicles belonging to private educational institutions in the district.
