Vijayanagar Football Club (VFC) finished runners-up in the 4th year ‘Hindu Cup’ Open Football Tournament organised as part of Ugadi celebrations by Hindu Geleyara Balaga, Gowdalli, Somwarpet, recently.
In the finals of the State-level 11-a-side Tournament, VFC lost to Malnad FC, which had mixture of ex-India players and current Super Division players, in penalties (2-3) after the match ended in a 0-0 draw.
Earlier in the semi finals, VFC defeated Reddy Brothers FC with the scoreline reading 2-0. In the quarter finals, VFC won by a margin of 1-0 against Shreeram Sunti FC which consisted of players from Bengaluru. In the first match of the Tournament, VFC beat Tumkur FC 4-1.
Praveen Raju was awarded ‘Gentleman Player of the Tournament.’ Sachin received ‘Best Striker Trophy.’ VFC also got a cash prize of Rs. 50,000 and an attractive trophy.
