Mysuru: Noted Marathi translator and writer Uma Kulkarni has been selected for the prestigious ‘S.L. Bhyrappa Sahitya Pratishtana’ Award given by Mysuru-based S.L. Bhyrappa Sahitya Pratishtana.
Uma Kulkarni, a Pune-based writer, will be conferred the award by Saraswathi Samman awardee Dr. S.L. Bhyrappa at a programme to take place at National College auditorium, Basavanagudi, Bengaluru, at 10.30 am on Jan. 19 (Sunday).
The award carries a cash prize of Rs. 1 lakh and a certificate with the signature of Dr. Bhyrappa.
Writer Sahana Vijaykumar will deliver the introductory address while Uma Ramarao will speak on the topic ‘Umatai, who brought Bhyrappa to Marathi’ and Dr. Anjali Joshi will speak on ‘Umatai: The Pen and the Person.’
Uma Kulkarni, a native of Belagavi and a resident of Pune, has more than 55 works to her credit and has translated many classic works of Dr. S.L. Bhyrappa to Marathi.
