It is with a great sense of shock that I read about the unfortunate death of the young and upcoming engineer, Abhishek Bhat, in a shooting incident in California (SOM dated Nov.29). Here in Texas, I was totally unprepared for this terrible news, as I casually opened Star of Mysore online for news about my hometown Mysuru.
An enterprising young man getting killed in such a way left me dumbstruck. As I read on more details about the family of this young man dealt a double blow. Abhishek’s grandfather Prof. Sivaram Aithal was a Kannada Professor of repute and we were colleagues in Sarada Vilas College, Mysuru. Prof Aithal was an authority on many areas in Kannada literature and a great scholar in Sanskrit too.
What struck me another hard blow was that Nandini, mother of Abhishek, was my student and a recognised athlete at State-level and Prof. Aithal was very proud of her accomplishments. I do not know how to express my condolences as words fall short at such circumstances. May God give the aggrieved family the required strength to go through such a terrible event.
