Mumbai: Samit Dravid, son of legendary cricketer and former Team India Head Coach Rahul Dravid, has achieved a remarkable milestone by earning his first selection in the India Under-19 squad. Dravid, an emerging talent in Indian cricket, is set to make his mark in the upcoming multi-format home series against the Australia Under-19 team, which will take place in September and October.
The India Under-19 team will face-off against their Australian counterparts in a series that blends both limited-overs and longer format matches. The 50-over matches are scheduled to be held in Puducherry on Sept. 21, 23, and 26, while the series will shift to Chennai for two four-day encounters starting on Sept. 30 and Oct. 7 respectively.
Mohamed Amaan, a talented middle-order batsman from Uttar Pradesh, has been named captain for the 50-over matches, bringing a wealth of domestic experience and strategic acumen to the role. Soham Patwardhan from Madhya Pradesh will lead the team in the four-day format, providing seasoned leadership and tactical expertise.
Samit Dravid’s selection comes on the back of notable performances in domestic cricket. In the Maharaja T20 Trophy, Dravid representing the Mysuru Warriors scored 82 runs at a strike rate of 114 over seven innings. The Mysuru Warriors were competing in the semi-final on the day the Under-19 squad was announced. Earlier this year, Dravid played a pivotal role in Karnataka’s victory in the Cooch Behar Trophy amassing 362 runs and claiming 16 wickets in eight matches including stand-out performances in the final against Mumbai.
