Mysore/Mysuru: A chain snatcher, who had robbed a gold chain of a woman at about 8.15 am on May 22, was arrested by Saraswathipuram Police near Bengaluru Railway Station on May 29.
According to the press release from the Office of the City Police Commissioner, the accused, who came on a scooter, had yanked off a part of the woman’s gold mangalya chain and another gold chain of the same woman on May 22 morning, when she was on her way to fetch milk.
Following a complaint from the woman, a Special Police team comprising officers and staff of Saraswathipuram Police Station was formed to nab the accused.
The Special Police Team, which collected all necessary information about the accused, traced him at Bengaluru and nabbed him on May 29 near Bengaluru Railway Station and brought him to the Police Station for interrogation.
During interrogation, the Police came to know that the accused was involved in chain snatching cases at Saraswathipuram and Lakshmipuram Police limits in Mysuru and had also lifted a two-wheeler at Cottenpet in Bengaluru.
Based on the information provided by the accused, Saraswathipuram Police have recovered 23.5 gram gold chain and the stolen scooter, all worth Rs. 2.37 lakh.
The Police also came to know that the accused had about 40 cases registered against him in Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh and had undergone seven years imprisonment in two cases.
DCP (Crime and Traffic) S. Jahnavi and Vijayanagar Sub-Division ACP Gajendra Prasad guided Saraswathipuram Inspector G. Purushotham, Sub-Inspectors S.S. Latha, Shivananda G. Patil, S. Raju and staff Sheshadri, Mohankumar, Shivaprakash, Sudeepkumar, Somashekar Nayak, Venkatesh, Rajesh Technical Wing’s P. Kumar and crime detection staff of ACP Vijayanagar Sub-Division and ACP Narasimharaja Sub-Division took part in the nabbing and seizing operation.
