Sir,
This is to convey to the people concerned my concurrence with the views expressed by Maj. Gen. S.G. Vombatkere (SOM dated Oct. 12) in the matter of widening the Hunsur Road near Jaladarshini Guest House. That the accidents are more due to negligent driving and over-speeding than due to ‘bad’ roads is evident from the fact that a great majority of the accidents in Mysuru are being witnessed on the wide Ring Road and that many accidents on National Highways involve vehicles jumping the median.
Many drivers, motorbike riders and goods auto drivers in particular, show scant respect for traffic rules and drive at intolerable speeds. Authorities do little to stop these offenders but come jumping forward to widen roads, eating away footpaths. Further, this particular stretch of Hunsur Road is one of the only few ones in the city curving beautifully in tune with the topography and adorned by huge trees. I hope the enlightened citizens of the city come together to prevent the fall of one more iconic landmark.
