Mandya: Mandya Police headed by SP G. Radhika conducted a flag march on the main thoroughfares of the city this morning to warn the agitators of stringent action in case of disrupting peace and harmony over River Cauvery issue.
The Police have also been conducting meetings with the farmer leaders and pro-Kannada organisations at all Police Stations in the district, warning them against organising protest, road blockades and damaging public properties.
Meanwhile, security at KRS dam has been beefed up with the Police deploying two DAR and two KSRP platoons along with one Dy.SP, six PSIs, 14 ASIs and 48 Police Constables at the spot. The Police have also erected three barricades at the main entrance of KRS apart from deploying personnel at all entrance gates of the dam.
A special team comprising 620 personnel from Fire and Emergency Services and divers has been formed to take preventive measures to act at times of emergencies. Overall, the District Police have deployed around 2,000 additional Police personnel throughout the district to avoid untoward incidents.
SC begins hearing
Meanwhile, the Supreme Court began the hearing of appeals filed by Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Kerala against Cauvery Water Dispute Tribunal’s decision on water sharing from today (July 11). Senior Advocate Fali S. Nariman, who has been representing Karnataka, had started to put forward his arguments before the three-member Bench of Justices Dipak Misra, Amitava Roy and A.M. Khanwilkar, when we went to the Press.
The SC is scheduled to hold back-to-back hearing in the case for the next 15 days.
