Madikeri: Schools and Colleges which were shut across the district for over a week on account of heavy rains and landslides, re-opened this morning, even as rescue and relief operations are going on in full swing, with rains giving a break.
Barring 61 schools located in flood ravaged areas, most of them in Madikeri taluk, all other Schools and Educational Institutions re-opened, much to the relief of students.
At a meeting yesterday, which was chaired by District in-Charge Minister S.R. Mahesh, it was decided to re-open the Schools.
The meeting was attended by MLAs K.G. Bopaiah and M.P. Appachu Ranjan, MLC Sunil Subramani, Zilla Panchayat President B.A. Harish, District in-Charge Secretary Anbu Kumar, DC P.I. Sreevidya, SP Suman D. Pennekar, ZP CEO Prashanth Kumar Mishra, IAS officer Charulatha Somal and other officials.
At the meeting, Minister Mahesh said that the State Government has decided to teach academics to children at relief camps and centre and distribute them text books.
Asking the officials to ensure that there were no lapses in the distribution of relief materials to flood victims across the district, he directed the officials to provide hot water and supply LPG cylinders and gas geysers to relief camps.
Maintaining that there was enough stock of relief materials for distribution amongst the victims, he instructed the Revenue officials to locate Government lands wherever available for rehabilitation of flood and landslide victims.
Deputy Commissioner Sreevidya said that the District Administration has taken measures for providing land and property records to those victims who have lost them in the disaster.
