Mysuru: St. Thomas English Medium School, Vishweshwaranagar, had organised a Science Carnival (Science Exhibition) recently to showcase the scientific ideas and skills of students. Around 300 school children exhibited scientific models on the theme ‘Innovations for Sustainable Development.’
Students showed their innovative ideas on technology use for future convenience, resource utilisation, water conservation and use of non-conventional energy resources.
A model of Dinosaur made of plastics was a special attraction of the Science Carnival-2019. The key idea behind was to caution all, about one of the most delicate, marvellous and colourful invention of science.
“Plastic has devoured the whole universe as a dinosaur and we are at the edge of a disaster by polluting the whole Earth in a very dangerous manner.” The vibrant message was delivered to the public to avoid or at least limit the use of plastics .to save our Mother Nature.
The school encourage expos to realise that new ideas grow in the minds of these young children and these are the platforms where ideas begin to bloom for the development of the world.
Many exhibits were modelled to provide solutions to many present and future socio-economic problems; few exhibits were even designed to bring the live experience to all.
The understanding and realising the importance of integrating scientific ideas in daily life situations was infused in the young mind. It was a common platform to all students to exhibit their innovative ideas and learn from gamut of science enthusiasts present under one roof.
The chief guest for the Science Carnival was Dr. T.N. Bhavanishankar, Director, Schevaran Innovation Centre, Mysuru. Rev. Fr. Prakash Abraham, Manager of St. Thomas Institutions, Sam Cherian, Secretary of Mar Thoma Education Society (MES), Ebby Eapen, Treasurer, MES, visiting faculty Simi Prakash and Vanitha Chengappa, Principals and Vice-Principals were present on the dais.
Dr. Bhavanishankar expressed his appreciation and excitement towards the innovative model exhibited by the students, he also insisted the students to develop scientific attitude and sharper their innovative mind.
He advised the students to take up pure science in their higher studies instead of applied science. And also, he personally assured to award a scholarship for the higher studies for the one who stands first in science in Board exam.
