Mysuru: Jnanodaya PU College, Saraswathipuram, conducted a Science Fest and Exhibition for students of Class IX and X recently.
Dr. C.D. Prasad, retd. Scientist and Engineer, Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), who was the chief guest, stressed on how science and religion go hand-in-hand towards development. He added that with technological advancement, the younger generation invests more time with latest gadgets rather than increasing their IOC (Inquisitiveness, Observance, and Curiosity), which diminishes over the course of time.
More than 300 students from 35 schools participated in the Science Fest and Exhibition.
The event was presided by H. Ramachandra, Treasurer of Jnanodaya PU College.

Former Minister S. A. Ramdas, who was the chief guest at the valedictory, gave away the prizes to the winners.
Best Model: Team – R. Rithin and Rohan Gangodkar of Ideal Java Rotary School for model on Floor Cleaning (Trophy).
First prize: Team – K.L. Bhoomika and K.L. Kavanashree of Mahaveer High School for model on Global Warming (Cash prize of Rs. 3000 with trophies); Second prize: Team – Manisha and Prarthana of Royale Concorde High School for model on Food Adulteration (Cash prize of Rs. 2000 with trophies); Third prize: Team – J. Nischitha of St. Mary’s Girls High School for model on sewage water for agriculture (Cash prize of Rs. 1500 with trophies); Consolation prizes: Team – Sanjay and Adhithya of Lalitha High School for model on Solar Pump; Team – Deepthi Jain and Sahana N. Bhat of GSSS for model on Production of Electricity from ice stupa (Cash prize of Rs. 500 each).
On the occasion, S. K. Bhaskar, Secretary of Jnanodaya PU College, gave away the Merit cum Poverty Scholarships, sponsored by Sri Sringeri Sharada Peetam, Sringeri, for the year 2016-17, to five deserving students — Adarsh Kamath, C. Nimisha, Spoorthi Ramesh, K.S. Nidhi and M.R. Kannan.
Learners PU College
Retired ISRO scientist Dr. C.D. Prasad also delivered a talk at Learners PU College in city recently. He spoke about the history of ISRO, importance of satellites in our daily life, essential parts of a rocket and all different streams of technology used in ISRO.
He gave information about the PSLV launching, how a small mathematical mistake which led to its failure. He also shared his experience of working with Dr. Abdul Kalam. He showed videos of launching of PSLV C-II and pictures of Chandrayan and other satellites. He also guided students about the various courses they could take up after PUC.
