‘Scientific Pranayama to beat Corona’

Mysore/Mysuru: The Department of Chemistry, GSSS Institute of Engineering & Technology for Women (GSSSIETW), Mysuru, under its Nature Club, had organised a webinar titled ‘Scientific Pranayama helps to beat the fear of Coronavirus’ through YouTube live-streaming.

Devaki Madhav, Psychologist and Scientific Pranayama practitioner, Mysuru, who was the guest speaker said today the world is fighting against Coronavirus pandemic and finding solutions to treat the same. It is reported that, COVID-19 patients are suffering from after-effects of the disease because the virus attacks on the respiratory system of the body. However, like other diseases, the ill-effects of Coronavirus can be treated with the help of Pranayama, she added.

Explaining that Pranayama is an art of technique to make the respiratory organs to expand intentionally, rhythmically and intensively, she said, 

“It consists of long, sustained flow of inhalation, exhalation and retention of breath. Inhalation stimulates the system, exhalation throws out vitiated air & toxins and retention distributes the energy throughout the body.”

Followed by this, she suggested few Pranayama techniques such as Bhastrika, Kapalbhati, Ujjayi and Anuloma Viloma will reduce the neurological problems, anxiety, negative feelings and demotivation. 

She insisted to practice 30 minutes of Yoga and Pranayama followed by meditation every day to stabilise physical fitness and mental well-being of everyone.

The session was followed by question and answer in which most of the doubts of the participants were clarified. More than 300 participants, including staff, students and some external participants were benefited.

The event was co-ordinated by Dr. S. Bellappa, Professor & Head and faculty members, Department of Chemistry, GSSSIETW, Mysuru.
