Scrap dealer arrested for sharing sensitive post

K.R. Pet (Mandya District): The K.R. Pet Town Police arrested Shafi, a scrap dealer, for sharing photographs of a Pakistan soldier kissing his flag, on the social media on Wednesday night and produced him before a Court yesterday. Shafi owns a scrap shop on Taluk Office Road.

At a time when tension prevails due to the ongoing air-strikes on the India-Pakistan border, Shafi has shared the pictures on his Facebook wall.

Representatives of various organisations including Vishwa Hindu Parishad, Jaya Karnataka, Chalavadi Mahasabha and Taluk Auto Drivers and Owners Association staged a protest in front of the Town Police Station, alleging that such posts will disturb peace and harmony among the people in the town, and demanded that Shafi be banished from the taluk.

He was produced before the Court yesterday but no lawyer came forward to represent him. Bar Association President M.R. Rajesh has stated in a press release that the Association has decided not to represent Shafi, who has allegedly supported the rival country, by sharing such sensitive posts.
