Scrap NRI quota in Medical seats: AIDSO

Mysore/Mysuru: Demanding scrapping of NRI (Non-Resident Indian) quota seats in Government Medical Colleges, the AIDSO (All India Democratic Students Organisation) staged a demonstration in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s Office here recently.

Addressing the protesters, AIDSO District Secretary Nithin said that the State Government has decided to introduce 15 percent NRI quota seats in Government Medical Colleges from 2025-26. This decision will crash the dreams of poor students who are aspiring medical education, he maintained.

Already, there is 15 percent NRI seats under All India quota. If the State Government introduces NRI quota, the students of the State will only get 140 of the 200 seats in a batch. Also, the Government’s decision is a dangerous one aimed at making Government Medical Colleges as profit centres just like private establishments. As such, the Government should drop its plans of NRI quota introduction in  Government Medical Colleges, Nithin argued.

AIDSO office-bearers Chandrakala, Swathi, Chandrika, Disha, Anjali and others took part in the protest.
