Mysore/Mysuru: In commemoration of 76 years of India’s Independence and the 105th Birth Anniversary of Sri Jayachamaraja Wadiyar, HH Sri Srikantadatta Narasimharaja Wadiyar Foundation has organised the screening of a documentary film titled ‘The Saga of a Braveheart’ (Duration 48 minutes) on July 15 at 6.30 pm at Jaganmohan Palace Auditorium in city.
It will be followed by an interaction with Maya Chandra, Founder and Director of Maya Films.
Shakunthala Bhandarkar, wife of late Lt. Col. Ajit Bhandarkar, will be present during the screening of this Documentary film. The viewing of this film is open to all. For details, contact Mob: 99806-56631.
About the documentary: The documentary, which has won the prestigious Best Documentary (Jury) Award at the 13th Dadasaheb Phalke Film Festival, Delhi, earlier this year, is produced by Maya Films and directed by Maya Chandra, inspired by the true story of Lt. Col. Ajit V. Bhandarkar, Shaurya Chakra, who sacrificed his life for the nation on Oct. 30, 1999, while neutralising terrorists in the J&K region.
‘The Saga of a Braveheart’ mirrors the life of every man and woman in the Armed Forces whose lives are dedicated to India, whose families have also sacrificed normal lives and live on the edge and is a tribute to all these men, women and their families. It reflects an important message that every sacrifice has only strengthened the fabric of India and we all need to respect and salute these extraordinary soldiers in gratitude to their duty and supreme sacrifices.
About Lt. Col. Ajit V. Bhandarkar, Shaurya Chakra (Posthumous): Lt. Col. Ajit V. Bhandarkar was an alumnus of National Defence Academy. He was commissioned in 18 Madras from the Indian Military Academy in December 1981 and was appointed as an instructor in the prestigious Officers’ Training Academy, Chennai, on Nov. 26, 1987. He was in the frontline in 25 Rashtriya Rifles as 21C in October 1999 when he got martyred exemplifying the motto of his regiment, “It is a glory to die doing one’s duty.”
