Search Panel meets in Bengaluru to shortlist VC for Mysore Varsity

Mysuru: The Search Committee headed by Chairman Prof. K. Narayana Gowda, former Vice-Chancellor, University of Agricultural Sciences, met at the conference hall of the Higher Education Department at MS Building in Bengaluru yesterday, to shortlist three candidates for the Vice-Chancellor’s post of University of Mysore (UoM).

Sources in the UoM told Star of Mysore that the Committee had met yesterday and the Finance Department personnel were also there to settle their TAs and DAs.

However, nothing is clear yet as to who are the three people who have been shortlisted for the VC’s post. There are nearly 82 aspirants for the post out of whom nearly 15-20 are Professors from the University of Mysore itself, it is learnt.

Apart from Registrar Prof. R. Rajanna,  Prof. Tulasi Mala, who has now gone as the Registrar of Vijayanagara Sri Krishnadevaraya University, are also vying for the post. The other names in the reckoning are: former Registrar Prof. C. Basavaraju, Prof. Rajashekar, Prof. Hemanth Kumar, Prof. Miditila Rani, all from University of Mysore, and Prof. Sharat Ananthamurthy from University of Hyderabad. The Committee is said to have shortlisted three names and they could be among any of these or someone else.

The sources in the University said that the Committee including Prof. B.C. Chapparwal (Governor’s nominee), former Vice-Chancellor of Indore Health University, Prof. M. Jagadish Kumar (UGC nominee), Vice-Chancellor of Jawaharlal Nehru University and Prof. S. Chandrashekar (University of Mysore nominee) from Indian Institute of Chemical Technology, Hyderabad.

One of the former VCs, who is in the knowhow of the developments, said that all the four in the search panel are scholars of repute and hoped that a suitable VC for University of Mysore will be shortlisted.
