Mysuru: Stating that there were allegations of lapses in the socio-economic survey conducted by the State government recently, Adichunchanagiri Mutt Seer Sri Nirmalanandanatha Swamiji has said he would intervene in the issue when the time is right.
Speaking after inaugurating the girl students hostel built by the Vokkaligara Sangha on Kannada Sahitya Bhavan road in Vijayanagar First Stage here on Wednesday, the Seer said there are complaints that a number of Vokkaliga families have been left out from the survey.
Accusing some of the previous State Governments of targeting the dominant Vokkaliga community, the Swamiji stressed on the need for organising and strengthening the community.
Recalling the visit of former President late Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam to Adichunchanagiri Mutt sometime ago, he said based on Kalam’s suggestion, the Mutt came forward to build student hostels and thus came to the aid of students, especially those from rural areas.
Nanjavadootha Swamiji of Gurugunda Brahmeshwara Swamy Mutt, in his address, alleged that the community leaders were being unnecessarily targeted by vested interests.
Calling upon the community leaders to stay united at all times, he said that the Institutes run by the community should look at providing quality education to all students.
Sangha Director Prasanna N. Gowda, who also spoke, said that the enumerators of the survey had visited only 60 percent of Vokkaliga families in the city.
On the occasion, more than 20 meritorious students of the community who scored high marks in SSLC and PUC were presented pratibha puraskar.
Adichunchanagiri Mysuru Shakha Mutt Seer Someshwaranatha Swamiji, Mayor M.J. Ravikumar, State Vokkaligara Sangha President D.N. Bettegowda, Sangha’s past and present office-bearers and others were present.
