Mysuru: ‘Kundan’ artist of the city R. Puttaraju has been selected for Vachana Chitrarachana Pithamaha M. Veerappa Endowment Award for the year 2018. The award carries a cash prize of Rs. 68,000, a citation and a memento.
The Endowment award has been instituted at JSS Mahavidyapeetha in memory of M. Veerappa by his son Prafulla Chandra Veerappa and grandson Satish Praffula Chandra. The well-known painter Veerappa was the founder of Mysore Toys Company. JSS Mahavidyapeetha will honour Puttaraju at a function shortly, according to a press release from Publicity Wing of JSS Mahavidyapeetha.
Profile: R. Puttaraju hails from Mullur of Kollegal taluk in Chamarajanagar district. The paintings of Puttaraju are exhibited at various places in and outside the country. His art works have received accolades from the former Prime Ministers Jawaharlal Nehru, Lal Bahadur Shastri and Indira Gandhi and also from former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu M. G. Ramachandran.
He was also honoured with various State and National awards in recognition of his works.
