Mysuru: Dr. C. Naganna, former Director of University of Mysore Prasaranga and Writer N.T. Bhat have been selected for the annual Kanthavara Sahitya Award and Kanthavara Anuvada Sahitya Award instituted by Kanthavara Kannada Sangha,Udupi.
The award consisting of Rs. 10,000 cash prize and citation will be presented on Nov. 1 at a function to be held at Kannada Bhavana at Kanthavara, said a press release from Sangha General Secretary Sadananda Naravi.
While the Kanthavara Sahitya Award is being presented by Sarojini Nagappaiah Endowment, the Translation Award is being presented through Mogasaale Prathistana.
Profile of Dr. C. Naganna
A native of Chikkati village in Gundlupet, Chamarajanagar district, Dr. C. Naganna is a M.A. (English) post-graduate and has a Ph.D in English. He worked as an English Professor for over 35 years in various colleges and also as the Director of Prasaranga, University of Mysore, for six years before retiring from his service.
He has also authored many books including collection of poems, translations, plays, criticism, short stories among others. Currently, he has been serving as a Visiting Faculty at the Kuvempu Institute of Kannada Studies at Manasagangothri.
About Dr. N.T. Bhat
Dr. Neerkaje Thirumaleshwara Bhat, popularly known as Dr. N.T. Bhat was born near Bantwal in Dakshina Kannada district. Having completed his high school education at Vitla, he completed his B.A. from M.G.M College in Udupi and M.A (English) from Aligarh Muslim University. He also holds M.A (German) from Karnataka University and later Ph.D from Music University for his research on Gandhian principles in Heinrich Boll writings.
He started his profession as an English lecturer in M.G.M. College and retired as a Professor in the same college. Later, he served as the Director of Theatre Arts Research Centre at M.G.M College and also founded the Indo-German Society in Germany.
He has been awarded the prestigious ‘Order of Merit’ in German President.
