Selfie craze snuffs out three young lives

Mandya/ Mysuru: Craze for a selfie in front of a moving train wiped out three young lives on the Mysuru-Bengaluru Railway track near Ramanagaram this morning. The young boys hailed from Bengaluru and were taking selfies when the speeding Mysuru-Solapur-Gol-Gumbaz Express ran over them.

Their bodies were mangled beyond recognition and certain body parts were scattered all around. The incident came to light as the loco-pilot reported the accident to the Station Master at Ramanagaram and Mandya.

The incident occurred at around 8.45 am and the train was heading to Mysuru from Bengaluru. The locomotive left Krantivira Sangolli Rayanna Station in Bengaluru at 8.05 am. The victims have been identified as 20-year-old Pratheek Raikar, a resident of 27th Cross, Banashankari Second Stage, 20-year-old Rohit, son of Joseph and a resident of Hulimavu and 19-year-old Prabha Anand from Koramangala.

All the three youths were Second PUC students (PCMB) from National College, Bengaluru. They were identified through their identity cards. According to sources, the youths left home today at 6 am in two bikes and came on the track near Manchanayakanahalli. They climbed a parapet-like structure near the track and one of them was clicking selfies as the train approached.

In their enthusiasm, the youths failed to see the speeding train and came under the wheels. A team from Bengaluru Police and Railway Police comprising CPI Shivakumar, DySP Shyamanna and Head Constable Karanth rushed to the spot and are investigating.
